Last week my girl asked me why I hadn’t blogged about the projects I’ve done over the past year. I didn’t have a great reason other than — I just didn’t get the chance to sit down and do it! So today, for Flashback Friday, I’m sharing a commission for Marie Claire online.

This project was an advertorial collaboration between Marie Claire and Nordstrom. I was commissioned to illustrate thirty looks highlighting the Marie Claire editor’s top shoes for the spring — all of which are available at Nordstrom.

This was such a great project to do. I had the opportunity to illustrate a diverse set of fashion figures with all kinds of style — from athletic to glamorous to classic to eclectic. Oh, and the shoes? Seeing the editor’s picks for the spring were the best part! (I may or may not have done a little shopping for myself over the course of this project.)

You can see the entire slideshow here. Let me know what you think and what your favorite looks are!

My Favorite ‘Fit – Renae Bluitt of In Her Shoes Blog

Renae Bluitt, Illustrated by Veronica Marche

It’s Favorite ‘Fit time! Each week this month I’ll be featuring a fabulous brown girl blogger in her favorite outfit.

This week, I’ve sketched Renae Bluitt of Crush Media PR and In Her Shoes Blog. Here, she tells us the story behind this oh-so-fabulous dress:

“My favorite outfit is…
My Suakoko Betty dress & a pair of sky high (but comfy!) heels.

I love it because…
The dress is flirty, fun and designed by a talented independent designer.

My favorite place to wear it is….
Anywhere that allows me to indulge in great food, even greater conversations, cocktails & friends!”

Check out Renae’s glam blog, In Her Shoes. It follows fly, female entrepreneurs (and — wink wink — my Fabulous Brown Girls card were featured in her “Currently Crushing” section last holiday season). You can also follow In Her Shoes on Twitter and Instagram.

My Favorite ‘Fit – Tia Williams of Shake Your Beauty

Tia's Favorite Look. Illustration by Veronica Marche.

Starting this week, I’m featuring a few of my favorite brown-girl beauty, fashion and lifestyle mavens in a series called “My Favorite ‘Fit.” How it works — I asked each chica to share a photo of her favorite outfit and some words about why it makes her feel amazing. Then I illustrate her favorite look and share her answers here. Enjoy!

I’ve been following Tia Williams’ work as a beauty writer, editor and blogger for almost as long as I can remember now! Her blog, Shake Your Beauty, was daily lunch-break reading when I was still working in news. Here, Tia talks about the outfit that makes her feel like a rockstar.

“My favorite outfit is
my printed bodycon skirt and green mockneck crop top, with orange pumps.

I love it because
somehow, magically, it gives me the faintest hint of curvaceousness. If you squint.

My favorite place to wear it is
anywhere after 9pm.”

Make sure to go binge-read Shake Your Beauty. (My favorite post? The one where she shares bikini-line trimming tips she learned from strippers. Such vital information.) And you can also find Tia on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

I have had this photo of Solange Knowles on my “Inspiration” Pinterest board forever, and finally sat down to sketch it. I’m playing around with a new technique for creating backgrounds, which I have oh-so-eloquently named “scrubbling.” (Like “scribbling,” “scrubbing” and “bubbling” all rolled into one. Don’t judge me.)

This is illustration is a new favorite, simply because of the vibrance and the colors. Plus: Afro. So of course I love it.
