Custom Illustration for The Burnout Queens

burnoutqueensThis spring I got the opportunity to work with my very first international clients! Drs. Toby Silverton and Bev McLagan are the women of Silverton McLagan Coaching, a life and career coaching practice based in the U.K. They just underwent a relaunch of their brand – The Burnout Queens – and commissioned me to illustrate a portrait for their new website.

Bev and Toby found me via BluChic Theme’s Showcase page while they were shopping for a new look for their site. They sent an email and soon we were having Skype chats, brainstorming an illustration for their new look. Toby and Bev have two adorable pups — Quentin and Greer — and wanted them included in the illustration. (With crowns — for “queens”, of course!)

I had a blast working with Drs. Toby and Bev and I’m really happy to see the work on their new site. They also ordered the original print to put on display in their offices in London. And they were kind enough share some kind words about my work in return — I’ve included their testimonial on my “Raves” page.

Custom Illustration – Skinny Minority

Skinny Minority by Veronica Marche

A little while back, Karima Renee of The Skinny Minority commissioned a sketch to include in her brand imagining. Karima is a stylist and wardrobe consultant here in Philadelphia, and wanted an illustration to reflect her brand and her professional image.

The custom illustration is now part of the web banner over at Skinny Minority, and also included in Karima’s promotional materials. This project was particularly fun for me because Karima wanted to focus on the fabulousness of full-sized fashionistas (yay curvy gals!) a market that is growing leaps and bounds by the day. This year I’m definitely looking to add more plus work to my client and personal portfolios.

Rock The Red Pump: Red Pump Project Commission

I’ve been super fortunate (and super stoked!) to work with some crazy-creative people doing awesome stuff in the past few years. One of them is Luvvie Ajayi, social media strategist and humor blogger extraordinaire. She wears many hats — or, shoes, I should say (it’ll make sense in a second) — but the one of the causes she’s most passionate about is HIV/AIDS awareness. Luvvie is co-founder of The Red Pump Project, a non-profit that addresses the impact of HIV in women and girls. And each they host the Rock the Red Pump Campaign, which gathers movers, shakers and thinkers all across the blogosphere to talk about how the disease is affecting our communities.

This year, Luvvie brought me on to create the official illustration for the “Rock The Red Pump” badge. And  it was so much fun to do. I mean, who can argue with drawing a woman’s favorite thing (shoes!) in support of an amazing cause? Luvvie wanted a funky yet fabulous image that would represent The Red Pump Project and the rainbow ofwomen who are involved in the cause of HIV awareness. I was happy to deliver.

It was so cool to be part of a social media campaign that has been growing so fast since it’s inception. And yeah, it was also pretty cool to see my work pop up unexpectedly when I visited some of my favorite bloggers. This is one of the things I love — image-making that supports a greater cause.

Stephanie’s Bridal Illustration

Who doesn’t love love? I know I do. Which is why I was SOOOO happy when my friend Delano told the world he proposed to his sweetheart Stephanie, and she said yes! Then it got even better — the newly engaged couple contacted me to create an illustration for their special day! I was over the moon.

Stephanie wanted a keepsake she could give to her bridesmaids as a gift on the wedding day, so we came up with a card that would feature an illustrated version of the entire bridal party, emblazoned with their names and the date of the ceremony. Stephanie was great to work with. She knew all the details — style of dress, colors, jewelry, even each bridesmaid’s size and height — but left it up to me to work my creative magic. In the end, we ended up with a full-size (8″ x 10″) keepsake card that not only was a gift to the bridesmaids, but was also on display during the nuptials!

The wedding was so gorgeous, it was featured on the blog Black Bridal Bliss. You can check out the slideshow here. See if you can spot my handiwork while you’re at it. Oh, and apparently break-dancing happened too. Which means the reception was awesome.
